The film itself is a visual masterwork, both innovative and endlessly creative in design and execution. This fanciful, animated feature from French artist and director Michel Ocelot is based on a popular folk tale from West Africa. Some sotceress are realistic and you get so into the plot, that you almost feel like it's actually happening except, it's a newborn kirikuo running around, talking, and pretty much being as independent as one could be.
Since he can speak and walk immediately after being born, it's also pretty obvious that he's not a normal baby.
The women and children who remain, live in fear and poverty as a result.
